{"id":12347,"date":"2021-02-26T00:06:56","date_gmt":"2021-02-26T00:06:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2021\/02\/26\/two-pilots-injured-in-tyndall-air-force-base-crash\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T20:12:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T20:12:30","slug":"two-pilots-injured-in-tyndall-air-force-base-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/02\/26\/two-pilots-injured-in-tyndall-air-force-base-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Contract pilots in F1B Mirage suffer non-life-threatening injuries in Tyndall AFB crash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two pilots aboard a Mirage F1B fighter jet suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the aircraft slid off the runway at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/video\/2019\/08\/16\/tyndall-rebuilding-projects-need-congress-money-defense-news-minute-august-16-2019\/\" target=_blank>Tyndall Air Force Base<\/a> in Florida Thursday morning, an official for the aircraft owner told Air Force Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey are doing fine,\u201d said John Rupp, a spokesman for <a href=\"https:\/\/atacusa.com\/mirage-f1.html\" target=_blank>Airborne Tactical Advantage Company<\/a> said Thursday evening. \u201cOne of our two-seat Mirage F1Bs supporting military flight training at Tyndall, upon return, slid off the runway. One of the pilots elected to eject.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both pilots are recovering in a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Rupp said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company is still investigating to determine the cause of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tyndall officials said the incident occurred at 11:45 a.m. Thursday \u201coff the end of the flightline,\u201d according to a statement, posted on Twitter, from Col. Gregory Moseley, the 325th Fighter Wing Commander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the pilots and their families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First responders were dispatched to the scene immediately and both pilots were taken to a hospital in Panama City, Florida, Moseley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTyndall is working closely with ATAC to ensure a thorough and timely investigation of the incident,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ATAC, headquartered in Newport News, Virginia, with locations worldwide, trains \u201cNavy, Marine, Air Force, Army and International aircrews, ship-crews and Combat Controllers\/JTACs in the air-to-air, air-to-ship, and air-to-surface arenas,\u201d according to its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mirage F1B is a two-seat version of the French fighter\/attack and reconnaissance aircraft developed as a successor to the Mirage III, the famous delta wing fighter, according to the ATAC site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The French Air Force was the major operator of the Mirage F1, with 246 aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is a highly capable supersonic fighter, a stable ground attack weapon system, and it possesses the tactical flexibility to participate in all integrated training exercises,\u201d according to ATAC. \u201cThe F1 is truly a threat-representative fighter able to perform all the missions required to train today\u2019s frontline fighter pilots.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Statement from Col.
