Joseph Guastella takes command at AFCENT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A decorated pilot with more than 1,000 combat flight hours in the F-16C\/D Fighting Falcon and the A-10C Thunderbolt II has taken command of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2018\/07\/06\/air-force-takes-more-steps-to-streamline-deployment-processes-eliminate-paperwork\/\" target=_blank>U.S. Air Forces Central Command<\/a>, where he will provide air power for the wars in Afghanistan and Syria and Iraq. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/06\/05\/this-is-the-f-16-and-a-10-pilot-whos-going-to-run-the-air-forces-wars-in-the-middle-east\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lt. Gen. Joseph Guastella Jr.<\/a> assumed command Aug. 30, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/07\/23\/us-strikes-continue-an-upward-trend-in-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lt. Gen. Jefferey Harrigian<\/a> during a ceremony at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2018\/01\/31\/seeking-closer-ties-qatar-to-expand-base-used-by-us-troops\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar<\/a>. Guastella was promoted to lieutenant general just prior to the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harrigian is moving on to become the next deputy commander of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/03\/15\/air-force-ups-support-for-allies-in-europe-keeps-close-eye-on-russia\/\" target=_blank>US Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt goes without saying that I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to lead the men and women of AFCENT and to be a partner of this great coalition,\u201d said Guastella, according to an Air Force news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guastella will also command the Combined Forces Air Component for the CENTCOM area of operations. Then, from 2012 to 2013, he commanded the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 1987 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy has also instructed at the U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, and commanded the 555th Fighter Squadron at Aviano Air Base, Italy, and the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw AFB, South Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most recently, he served as director of integrated air, space, cyberspace and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations at Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB, Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo our airmen, joint warfighters, and men and women of the coalition who get the job done: It\u2019s our youngest airmen who have signed up to serve our nation who inspire me.
