In all, 3,303 airmen were officially promoted last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the newly-promoted officers were 74 first lieutenants, 102 captains, 247 majors, 121 lieutenant colonels and 47 colonels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list of newly-promoted enlisted airmen included 1,289 staff sergeants, 788 technical sergeants, 487 master sergeants, 97 senior master sergeants and 51\u00a0chief master sergeants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pin-on date is the date when an airman selected for promotion officially takes his next rank. It often comes months\u00a0\u2014 or in some cases, more than a year \u2014 after selection for promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For both officers and enlisted, airmen must wait to pin on their new ranks until other airmen already in that rank are themselves promoted or leave the service, opening up more slots. This is so the Air Force does not find itself with more airmen in a higher rank than it is legally allowed to have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lists of officers who pinned on in
