But it\u2019s now working on ways to prevent that.<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Army is in the middle of a plan to study what makes new soldiers most prone to injury, while putting teams of nutritionists and fitness coaches into every brigade.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early trials showed new soldiers who ate a bar fortified with calcium and vitamin D during basic training had greater increases in bone density, said Dr. Erin Gaffney-Stomberg of the Military Nutrition Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"466\" height=\"350\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/performance-ready-bar.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/performance-ready-bar.jpg.jpg 466w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/performance-ready-bar.jpg.jpg?resize=300,225 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 466px) 100vw, 466px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center scientists are feeding a new Performance Readiness Bar to 4,000 recruits and tracking their bone injury rates over the next four years.
