{"id":19967,"date":"2016-10-02T21:06:25","date_gmt":"2016-10-02T21:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2016\/10\/02\/new-commander-readies-davis-monthan-for-possible-changes\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T20:31:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T20:31:15","slug":"new-commander-readies-davis-monthan-for-possible-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2016\/10\/02\/new-commander-readies-davis-monthan-for-possible-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"New commander readies Davis-Monthan for possible changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TUSCON, Ariz. \u2014 Davis-Monthan Air Force Base has a new commander who is taking over at a time when the Tucson installation faces uncertainties over the future of the A-10 jet. <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A-10 jets are the base&#8217;s largest mission,  <a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/tucson.com\/news\/local\/davis-monthan\/d-m-s-future-coming-into-focus-under-new-commander\/article_194829ef-769b-5dda-9143-b4952d4d4d7a.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/tucson.com\/news\/local\/davis-monthan\/d-m-s-future-coming-into-focus-under-new-commander\/article_194829ef-769b-5dda-9143-b4952d4d4d7a.html\">the Arizona Daily Star\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The base is in the running for several future projects, including drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;All that is positive, and my No. 1 priority right now, in my two years, is trying to posture the base strategically for our future mission, because a lot of those decisions are going to be made while I&#8217;m here,&#8221; said Col. Scott C. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Campbell said mission decisions could start this winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force recently said it would hold off on retiring the jets until 2022 or longer as A-10s are used to combat the Islamic State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Campbell said he&#8217;s continuing to train A-10 pilots despite the jets&#8217; looming
