Zachary Parish emailed cadets that morning about a perceived decline in some cadets\u2019 grooming, and reminding both male and female cadets about the rules governing their hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first sergeant concluded his email by reminding them about former NBA superstar Michael Jordan\u2019s habit of appearing at press conferences in a suit and tie, even without a dress code requiring it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe was never seen with a gaudy chain around his neck, his pants below his waistline, or with a backwards baseball hat on during public appearances,\u201d Parish said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Col. Julian Stephens, vice commandant of cadets for culture and climate, sent another email that afternoon apologizing for Parish\u2019s email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese comments were very disrespectful, derogatory and unprofessional and in no way reflective of [cadet wing leadership] views,\u201d Stephens wrote. \u201cMicroaggressions such as these are often blindspots\/unintentional biases that are not often recognized, and if they are recognized they are not always addressed.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"apester-media\" data-media-id=\"5a870887aa398000015e5394\" height=\"428\"><\/div><script async src=\"\/\/static.apester.com\/js\/sdk\/v2.0\/apester-javascript-sdk.min.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephens said that the academy\u2019s senior leadership \u201cis aware and will promptly address the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The emails were first posted on the unofficial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AirForceForum\/posts\/900043943502580\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Air Force amn\/nco\/snco<\/a> Facebook page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Academy spokesman Meade Warthen confirmed the emails were sent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe comments were inappropriate,\u201d Warthen said. \u201cWe have a responsibility for how we communicate, and if anyone feels disrespected by someone\u2019s words, we take that very seriously. We need to take responsibility immediately and learn from it as we move forward. In September, racial slurs were discovered outside the dorm rooms of five black cadet candidates in the academy\u2019s preparatory school. An investigation later found that one of those cadet candidates was the one who wrote the slurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But immediately after the slurs were found, academy Superintendent Lt. Gen.
