{"id":24028,"date":"2018-02-21T16:10:48","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T16:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/02\/21\/aussie-air-force-experiencing-oxygen-issues-in-hornets\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T19:08:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T19:08:18","slug":"aussie-air-force-experiencing-oxygen-issues-in-hornets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/2018\/02\/21\/aussie-air-force-experiencing-oxygen-issues-in-hornets\/","title":{"rendered":"Aussie Air Force experiencing oxygen issues in Super Hornets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Royal Australian Air Force has confirmed that its aircrews have experienced the same type of physiological episodes as U.S. Navy crews while flying the F\/A-18F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defenceconnect.com.au\/strike-air-combat\/1936-physiological-episodes-hit-raaf-aircrews\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\" target=\"_blank\">Defence Connect reported<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defenceconnect.com.au\/strike-air-combat\/1936-physiological-episodes-hit-raaf-aircrews\" title=\"\" class=\"\">.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPhysiological episodes are caused by complex interactions between human physiology and the aircraft breathing air system,\u201d a statement from the Australian website read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe problem is extremely complex as contaminants can be generated by a number of sources both within and external to the aircraft. Sara &quot;Clutch&quot; Joyner was named head of the Physiological Episode Action Team in August.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joyner testified in front of a special hearing about the oxygen issues on Feb. 6, and told lawmakers that the Australians, as well as the Swiss, are now flying with monitors in their Hornet aircraft to help the Navy gather data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But lawmakers are clearly getting frustrated with the lack of answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt some point, paying $69 million for an aircraft we know has serious problems with its life support system has to be questioned,\u201d said Rep.
