(AP) \u2014 A northwest Missouri man has been convicted of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2018\/05\/07\/air-guardsman-iraq-vet-fatally-stabbed-in-road-rage-incident\/\" target=\"_blank\">killing a Missouri Air National Guardsman<\/a> during a road rage confrontation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicholas Webb, 61, of Pleasant Hill, was convicted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/05\/11\/man-charged-in-air-guard-members-stabbing-death\/\" target=\"_blank\">the death of Cody Harter<\/a>, 23, of St. Joseph, the Jackson County Prosecutor\u2019s office announced Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lee\u2019s Summit police were called to an area in Interstate 470 in May 2018 after witnesses reported a man on the ground. Officers found Harter suffering from a stab wound, and he later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A witness told police Harter had his hands up and was backing away from Webb after they both got out of their vehicles, according to court documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police discovered Webb had been arrested the same day in Liberty with a knife in his pants. (Lee&#8217;s Summit Police)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harter served in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2017\/10\/11\/missouri-governor-announces-plans-to-add-800-national-guard-jobs\/\">Missouri Air National Guard<\/a>&nbsp;as a loadmaster and had completed a tour in Iraq and Qatar, his mother said at a press conference held in 2018 shortly after Harter\u2019s death. Harter also helped assist with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/12\/29\/lessons-from-a-hurricane-use-open-source-information\/\">hurricane relief efforts<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/10\/29\/air-force-works-to-deliver-cargo-overseas-after-delays-backlog-from-hurricane-relief-efforts\/\">Houston and Puerto Rico<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe had been to war and back, and to die because someone was angry,\u201d Kerrie, Cody\u2019s mother said at the time. \u201cDon\u2019t let him just be a number. &#8230; Please come forward and say something, anything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harter was one semester short of a degree in engineering technology from Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, his family said. He also ran a small lawn care business when he wasn\u2019t riding his dirt bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe loved his lawn care business because he could mow when he wanted to and get to the dirt track on weekends,\u201d his mother said at the press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the press conference, Kerrie was flanked by her husband, their daughter, a fellow airman who served with Cody, as well as Cody\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before the incident, Harter\u2019s father, Mike, said Cody called them to let them know he was on his way home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe came down yesterday to pick up a mower,\u201d Mike said. \u201cHe called his mom on the way home and said, \u2018I love you. I\u2019ll be home in just a bit.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harter\u2019s mother said that by the time police arrived on-scene, other motorists had pulled over and were already with Cody, trying to help him in his final moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEven though you left him to die alone,\u201d his mother said to the attacker who fled,
