He\u2019ll also have a key role in managing the privatized housing used by airmen and guardians and reforms to how the military does business with those landlords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaudhary most recently served as the director of advanced programs and innovation in the FAA\u2019s Office of Commercial Space Transportation for nearly three years. In that job, he oversaw research and development programs related to space travel, and was involved in regulating the budding commercial space industry from December 2017 to August 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ravi-chaudhary-81b6237\/\">according to his public LinkedIn profile<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/2019\/10\/28\/the-air-force-has-put-this-privatized-housing-landlord-on-notice\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Inhofe.Press_.Conference.Tinker.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Air Force has put this privatized housing landlord on notice<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">By the end of the year, Balfour Beatty Communities must submit a comprehensive improvement plan to assure safe and healthy living conditions of airman and their families.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to that he worked as the FAA\u2019s executive director of regions and center operations for three years, handling regulatory oversight and management of the aviation agency\u2019s operations, safety, emergency readiness, facilities management and more, according to LinkedIn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaudhary dealt with programs in that role \u2014 such as the \u201cNext-Generation Air Transportation System\u201d technologies and policies aimed at modernizing the U.S. air traffic enterprise \u2014 that echo the same infrastructure issues he will face in the Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur current air traffic system is based on infrastructure that was built 50 years ago and is becoming increasingly costly to maintain,\u201d he told a Women in Aviation International gathering in 2015. \u201cDeploying NextGen throughout our [National Airspace System] by involving industry, government and academic stakeholders will enhance widespread benefits, both in dollars and environmental benefits through fuel savings and reduced carbon emissions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaudhary\u2019s profile shows he has been self-employed as an aerospace and defense executive since August 2020. The Georgetown University Space Initiative, which he advises, noted in May that Chaudhary was chief executive officer of Virginia-based Falcon Innovations Aerospace, Training and Strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon confirmation, he would replace John Henderson, who joined the Air Force secretariat in 2018 following a 23-year career in the Army Corps of Engineers. It proposed a sweeping plan that includes divesting, demolishing, converting or consolidating 5 percent of its total facility square footage over 20 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service owned nearly 448 million square feet of buildings, leased about 5.2 million square feet, and listed about 17 million square feet as \u201cother\u201d in the United States and U.S. territories alone, as of a fiscal year 2018 Pentagon report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January, the service released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/Portals\/1\/documents\/2021SAF\/01_Jan\/AF_Installation_Energy_Strategic_Plan_15JAN2021.pdf\">new energy strategic plan<\/a> to become a more ecofriendly, fuel-efficient force and to better weather power outages \u2014 a concern spotlighted by the devastating effects of Texas\u2019s power grid failure earlier this year that affected residential, commercial and military buildings alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/04\/26\/air-force-faces-72-million-bill-for-winter-storm-damage\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/210219-F-LC363-1022.jfif_.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Air Force faces $72 million bill for winter storm damage<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Winter storms earlier this year caused more than $72 million in damages at Air Force installations across the country, as well as minor harm to two aircraft.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis plan captures major shifts in the department\u2019s approach to installation energy,\u201d said Mark Correll, deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for environment, safety and infrastructure. \u201cBy placing a greater focus on resilience and mission, the strategic plan will create an enterprise that is ultimately more prepared to deliver energy and water when and where it is needed to protect the nation, its values, and its interests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force is also in the process of rebuilding Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, and Offutt AFB, Nebraska, after natural disasters caused major damage there, and is trying to prepare other bases to withstand similar effects of hurricanes, wildfires, sea level rise and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaudhary, who graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy before going on to fly the C-17 Globemaster III transport plane in combat and around the world, has also worked on the GPS constellation and supported NASA\u2019s International Space Station program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Obama administration alum joined the President\u2019s Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders as a lieutenant colonel in 2014.
