{"id":30214,"date":"2018-07-06T15:54:06","date_gmt":"2018-07-06T15:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/07\/06\/air-force-takes-more-steps-to-streamline-deployment-processes-eliminate-paperwork\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T20:47:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T20:47:35","slug":"air-force-takes-more-steps-to-streamline-deployment-processes-eliminate-paperwork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/2018\/07\/06\/air-force-takes-more-steps-to-streamline-deployment-processes-eliminate-paperwork\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Force takes more steps to streamline deployment processes, eliminate paperwork"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pre-deployment requirements for airmen entering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/04\/02\/growing-readiness-woes-only-7-in-10-air-force-planes-are-ready-to-fly\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Air Forces Central Command<\/a>\u2019s area of responsibility were further slashed last month thanks to bureaucratic trimming by the command\u2019s manpower, personnel and services director, or A1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March, the command\u2019s 23-page Reporting Instructions document was reduced to just nine pages in an opening salvo against wasted time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That measure was followed by a second phase in June, which further reduces the number of checklist items deploying airmen must complete, extends the currency of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2016\/05\/03\/2-star-general-puts-wasteful-queep-duties-in-crosshairs\/\"> computer-based training<\/a>, and streamlines local reporting instructions for countries in AFCENT\u2019s AOR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe intent was to make policies and processes that said less but meant more,\u201d said Maj. Tamekia Payne, AFCENT\u2019s A1 forward deputy director, in a Tuesday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/1566765\/afcent-a1-gives-time-back-to-pre-deploying-airmen\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt gives people their time back; it pushes authorities down to the right levels,\u201d Payne added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new pre-deployment checklist was partially streamlined by, ironically, adding a medical portion.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/04\/06\/air-force-slashes-queep-paperwork-for-airmen-deploying-to-middle-east\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Spangdahlem-deployment-return-small.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Air Force slashes \u2019queep\u2019 paperwork for airmen deploying to Middle East<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">For years, stacks of paperwork and hours of computer-based training requirements have chewed up airmen\u2019s valuable time while they prepared for deployment to the Middle East.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally, medical pre-deployment requirements came in a six-page, stand-alone document. Marleah Cabano)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow, unit training managers are directed to update a deploying airman\u2019s training to be valid through the term of the deployment plus 30 days after they return,\u201d according to the press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The end goal is to help airmen focus less on minutia prior to a deployment, and instead spend more time on family and mission-related matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverything we did in our reduction of training and making training count through the term of the deployment was adopted as the Air Force\u2019s standard for all AORs,\u201d said Col. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One final change was to cut Local Reporting Instructions from 295 to 40 pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this update, each country should have only one set of reporting instructions that will be limited to points of contact for each respective unit and the minimum information necessary to facilitate transitioning from a home duty station to a deployed work station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis isn\u2019t really anything dramatically different than what we have done before,\u201d said Statham. \u201cWe are just
