{"id":30424,"date":"2021-09-21T18:04:54","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T18:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2021\/09\/21\/the-space-forces-new-service-dress-and-pt-uniforms-have-landed\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T20:55:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T20:55:03","slug":"the-space-forces-new-service-dress-and-pt-uniforms-have-landed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/09\/21\/the-space-forces-new-service-dress-and-pt-uniforms-have-landed\/","title":{"rendered":"The Space Force\u2019s new service dress and PT uniforms have landed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.\u2014The Space Force this week unveiled its new designs for service dress and workout uniforms as it continues to forge its own identity in the Pentagon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two guardians showed off the business uniform for the first time at the Air Force Association\u2019s annual conference here, showcasing a unisex look that the Space Force initially devised for women before adjusting for men\u2019s comfort as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Space Force is the first military service created since women were given the opportunity to hold the same roles as men, making this the first uniform designed with women in mind from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/09\/21\/to-insignia-and-beyond-space-force-rolls-out-new-designs-for-enlisted-sleeves\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/242577985_386538566351857_790811829566433302_n.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">To insignia and beyond: Space Force rolls out new designs for enlisted sleeves<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Space Force hopes to have the new enlisted insignia patches on guardians&#039; arms by the end of 2021.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The uniform is \u201cdistinctive, modern, professional, and comfortable to wear,\u201d Space Force spokesperson Col. Catie Hague said. \u201cWe designed the female uniform first and then we created the male version.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than the typical suit-style uniform that buttons in the middle, the Space Force\u2019s preliminary design features a dark blue, wraparound jacket with diagonal buttons over a dress shirt and neckwear. White stripes around the wrists and grey pants complete the look. (Social media users likened it to \u201cStar Trek\u201d garb and bellhop uniforms.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number six figures heavily in the design to represent the space service\u2019s arrival as the sixth military branch, with six buttons, a six-sided name tag, and six-sided enlisted insignia that the Space Force revealed on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe deep blue color was chosen from the Space Force seal. The dark color represents the vastness of outer space,\u201d Hague said. \u201cThe buttons have the globe, delta, orbit and stars that are part of both the U.S. Space Force flag and the seal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guardians have also started testing out a fresh physical training wardrobe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The jacket, shirt and shorts are \u201cdesigned for guardians to be physically ready to protect the U.S. and allied interests in space\u201d and \u201cdeveloped to withstand the most grueling physical regimens,\u201d Second Lt. Mahala Norris said in the video, adding that she\u2019s helping to vet the clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Norris \u2013 who became the first Department of the Air Force runner to earn a national championship title since 1964 when she won the NCAA\u2019s 3,000-meter steeplechase race in June \u2013 appeared in the Space Force\u2019s ad for the new PT gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In keeping with the Space Force\u2019s rule of sixes, it was only Norris\u2019s sixth time racing in a steeplechase event when she won at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships \u2013 an event with 35 barriers and seven water pits. She placed 13th in the steeplechase finals at the U.S. Olympic trials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI won at the collegiate level. Now it\u2019s time to win for the Space Force,\u201d she said. \u201cTrain hard, guardians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hague said the service wants to finalize the uniform designs in the coming months, but it could be years before they\u2019re widely available to any guardian who wants them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, the Space Force announced it would adopt operational camouflage pattern uniforms to match the Air Force and Army garb. Service members had until April 1, 2021 to adopt the new look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur uniforms are the first visual cue of our identity as a service,\u201d Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force Roger Towberman said in August 2020. \u201cAdopting the OCP worn in the joint environment reflects our role in the joint warfighting effort, and we incorporated Space Force-specific colors and configuration to establish our own independent identity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Space Force officials have yet to offer a sneak peek at the service\u2019s forthcoming formal mess dress uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpaceForceCSO?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SpaceForceCSO<\/a> Gen.
