But 27 seconds after the handover, the Predator pitched down on its own, and the mishap crew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/01\/30\/air-force-predator-crash-blamed-on-crew-error-datalink-failure\/\" target=_blank>lost their video feed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch and recovery crew still had a video link, and saw the Predator enter a rolling dive until it hit the ground. That crew tried to regain control, but was unable to make a connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/08\/18\/predator-crashes-in-turkey-investigation-underway\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/636016015106217240-mq-1-predator-2jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Predator crashes in Turkey; investigation underway<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">An MQ-1 Predator crashed in a field shortly after taking off from Incirlik Air Base in Turkey Thursday, the Air Force said.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Predator was from the 432nd Wing at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada, and was being operated by an air crew from the 432nd Air Expeditionary Wing, the report said. The majority of the drone was destroyed by a fire at the impact site, and the loss of the aircraft and clean-up of the area cost almost $5.4 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">General Atomics, the primary contractor on the Predator, analyzed the cockpit data and found an electrical cable had failed, resulting in a loss of power to the left tail flight control surface.
