{"id":34075,"date":"2018-05-07T16:43:56","date_gmt":"2018-05-07T16:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/05\/07\/air-force-officer-performance-eval-overhaul-could-be-done-by-2020\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:02:09","slug":"air-force-officer-performance-eval-overhaul-could-be-done-by-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/05\/07\/air-force-officer-performance-eval-overhaul-could-be-done-by-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Force officer performance eval overhaul could be done by 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force hopes to finish and roll out its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2016\/10\/12\/air-force-begins-overhaul-of-officer-evaluations\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">massive overhaul <\/a>of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/09\/17\/the-air-force-is-working-to-overhaul-its-personnel-systems-officer-evals\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">officer performance evaluation<\/a> and promotion system by fiscal 2020, the service\u2019s top personnel officer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What\u2019s more, the modernization effort taking place over the next 18 months will go hand-in-hand with an upgrade to IT systems that automates the performance evaluation process and puts it all on the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen we deliver this to the force, it will be online,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2015\/11\/16\/grosso-pins-on-3rd-star-to-become-first-female-usaf-personnel-chief\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Lt. Gen. Gina Grosso<\/a> said. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to roll out another system that we can\u2019t automate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grosso said it will differ from the enlisted evaluation overhaul of 2015, where the IT system couldn\u2019t sync with the forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phase 1 of the three-phase process included setting a baseline to lay out \u201cwhat we value\u201d in an officer performance system, Grosso said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second phase involves identifying what changes can already be made within the system as it exists today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once that is done, the Air Force will move on to the third and final phase \u2014 designing a new officer evaluation and promotion system and putting it into place. This process includes reconsidering what it should look like, she said \u2014 all the way down to whether forms are even necessary anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat would a new system look like?\u201d Grosso said. \u201cWhat would the forms look like? Would we have forms?
