{"id":34841,"date":"2019-10-30T16:44:02","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T16:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2019\/10\/30\/f-16-crashes-at-holloman-pilot-ejects\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:04:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:04:25","slug":"f-16-crashes-at-holloman-pilot-ejects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/10\/30\/f-16-crashes-at-holloman-pilot-ejects\/","title":{"rendered":"F-16 crashes at Holloman; pilot ejects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An F-16 from the 49th Wing at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/09\/28\/hollomans-49th-wing-realigns-under-air-education-and-training-command\/\" target=\"_blank\">Holloman Air Force Base<\/a> in New Mexico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/05\/17\/f-16-fighter-crashes-into-california-warehouse-pilot-ejects\/\" target=\"_blank\">crashed during a training flight<\/a> Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/10\/08\/us-f-16-fighter-jet-crashes-in-germany-pilot-ejects-to-safety\/\" target=_blank>pilot successfully ejected<\/a> from the fighter, and was being treated at a local hospital, the base said in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crash occurred at about 7:16 p.m., about 80 miles southeast of Holloman, the base said. Emergency response teams were on their way to the scene Tuesday night, and a board of officers will investigate the crash, Holloman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not yet known what caused the crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/05\/18\/munitions-from-crashed-f-16-safely-destroyed\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ammo1.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Munitions from crashed F-16 safely destroyed<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Munitions from an F-16 fighter jet that crashed through the roof of a Southern California warehouse were safely destroyed Friday afternoon and miles of closed freeway were reopened.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another F-16, from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, crashed in western Germany earlier this month. Its pilot also ejected, sustaining minor injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in May, an F-16 crashed into a warehouse at March Air Reserve Base in California after experiencing hydraulic problems that caused the pilot to lose control of the aircraft. That pilot safely ejected, but a dozen people on the ground were sent to hospitals for evaluation after they were exposed to debris.
