{"id":35076,"date":"2018-02-22T21:17:56","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T21:17:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/02\/22\/air-force-chief-wright-innovation-crucial-to-win-the-next-war\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:08:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:08:27","slug":"air-force-chief-wright-innovation-crucial-to-win-the-next-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/02\/22\/air-force-chief-wright-innovation-crucial-to-win-the-next-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Force Chief Wright: Innovation crucial to win the next war"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force must be thinking of new ways to innovate over the next decade or two, to make sure it\u2019s ready to win a new war, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/02\/19\/your-new-chief-master-sergeant-of-the-air-force-talks-promotions-enlisted-pilots-dwell-time-and-more\/\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\" target=\"_blank\">Kaleth Wright<\/a> said Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSome of you in this room will take to war in 10 to 20 years,\u201d Wright said in his address to the Air Force Association\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/03\/02\/chief-wright-air-force-leaders-must-step-up-to-fix-morale-troubles\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Air Warfare Symposium<\/a>. \u201cSo, we have to think about the technology and the innovation that we need 10 to 15 to 20 years from now. We have to start thinking about it and start building it right now.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But airmen have to feel like it\u2019s OK to fail as they try to come up with new, innovative ideas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2017\/12\/26\/new-in-2018-will-the-air-force-bring-back-warrant-officers\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Wright said<\/a>. If they don\u2019t have that freedom to fail, he said, they won\u2019t take risks and step outside their comfort zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDo you have a culture in your organization that allows airmen to fail?\u201d Wright asked leaders in the audience. \u201cThat\u2019s how we get there. Creative thinking.
