My foray into working in real estate began with writing for a luxury real estate agent in Northern Virginia. Her average home price exceeded $3 million, and she wouldn\u2019t go to a listing appointment if the house would sell below $750,000 unless it was a favor to a friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a real estate<\/a> nut and writer, this was a great gig. I loved looking at the pictures of these houses \u2014 poring over the sparkling infinity pools, gourmet gas ranges, beautifully tiled backsplashes, carrera marble counters, elevators (yes, multiple!), butler pantries and the unique features of some of the older, Colonial-style homes. They were so much nicer than the cozy (read: small) and clean (real estate-speak for plain, undiscernible \u2026 somewhat boring) town home we lived in on Marine Corps Base Quantico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief chat with the agent on the home specs and a review of the photos for her new listing<\/a>, I\u2019d get to work on the language for the multiple listings service (better known as MLS), and then the language for the brochures and other marketing materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was awesome \u2014 for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
