{"id":38131,"date":"2018-03-28T19:36:13","date_gmt":"2018-03-28T19:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/03\/28\/chief-wright-on-ocp-uniform-photos-my-bad-no-trolling-intended\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:07:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:07:33","slug":"chief-wright-on-ocp-uniform-photos-my-bad-no-trolling-intended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/03\/28\/chief-wright-on-ocp-uniform-photos-my-bad-no-trolling-intended\/","title":{"rendered":"Chief Wright on OCP uniform photos: \u2018My bad,\u2019 no trolling intended"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force is close \u2014 \u201clike really close\u201d \u2014 to making a decision on whether to adopt the Army\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2015\/07\/22\/airmen-downrange-to-get-new-uniforms-over-two-years\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Operational Camouflage Pattern<\/a> uniform, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth Wright said in a Facebook post Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, Wright said, he didn\u2019t intend to tease or \u201ctroll\u201d airmen on Monday when he posted photographs of himself wearing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2015\/03\/12\/deployed-airmen-shouldn-t-expect-new-army-uniforms-before-summer-or-later\/\">OCPs<\/a> during a trip to Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, he was trying to blend in with the airmen of the 27th Special Operations Group while he attended Air Force Special Operations Command\u2019s Chief Symposium last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWow! I never thought I\u2019d have to start a post off with \u2018my bad\u2019 but &#8230; my bad!\u201d Wright wrote on Facebook. \u201cI like to follow the lead of our host unit whenever we travel. If they\u2019re in blues, we\u2019re in blues. If they\u2019re in <a href=\"\/TEMP-LINK-TEMP\/\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\">[Airman Battle Uniforms]<\/a>, so are we. And sometimes \u2014 like with our visit to the AOR [in the Middle East], Ft. Bliss, or our AFSOC units, if they\u2019re in the OCPs, so are we.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many airmen are eager to switch to the OCP uniform, which has a six-color palette and smooth lines, allowing it to better blend in to various environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ABUs have a four-color, pixelated camouflage pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. Air Forces Central Command in 2012 made OCPs the official uniform for airmen deployed to Afghanistan because they are lightweight, flame-retardant and blend in well to Afghanistan\u2019s terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And an answer on the future of the Air Force\u2019s uniform will be coming soon, Wright said. Air Force could switch to OCP as soon as October<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Air Force could start switching to the Army\u2019s Operational Camouflage Pattern uniform as early as this fall, according to slides that have leaked online.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is one of those large movements that we absolutely can\u2019t get ahead of ourselves on,\u201d Wright said. \u201cIt\u2019s tough sifting through the rumor mill to make the right decision on your next uniform purchase and I get it. I work to be as transparent with you as possible. But right now, there is no decision \u2014 either way.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a sign of how high interest is, airmen quickly began weighing in after Wright switched his Facebook profile photo to one where he\u2019s wearing OCPs. He also posted a photo on Instagram of him taking a selfie with another OCP-wearing airman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCome on OCPs!\u201d one Instagram commenter wrote. \u201cLet\u2019s make [the] switch ASAP, Chief!\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSavage tease or friendly foreshadowing?\u201d a Facebook commenter wrote, prompting another to respond \u201cTroll level 1000.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It even sparked a Reddit thread headlined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/AirForce\/comments\/87bdh3\/enlisted_jesus_rubbing_it_in\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cEnlisted Jesus Rubbing It In,\u201d<\/a> using a nickname some online commenters have started calling Wright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wright said in his Tuesday post that there\u2019s no hidden message beyond, \u201cThis would make a great profile pic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn hindsight, I can 100% see why some of you thought I was trolling you,\u201d Wright wrote. \u201c(I see you, Reddit posters.) But I\u2019m not.
