{"id":38268,"date":"2024-12-13T20:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T20:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/uncategorized\/2024\/12\/13\/these-marine-units-will-field-new-mobile-command-vehicle-in-2025\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T21:14:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T21:14:58","slug":"these-marine-units-will-field-new-mobile-command-vehicle-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2024\/12\/13\/these-marine-units-will-field-new-mobile-command-vehicle-in-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"These Marine units will field new mobile command vehicle in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marines in the service\u2019s newest fighting formation will field a more rugged and capable mobile command vehicle on one of its newest ground vehicles in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under a contract with U.S defense firm Science Applications International Corporation, an initial purchase of 18 mobile command vehicles, or MCVs, will be delivered to Marine littoral regiments\u2019 medium-range missile firing units between January and July of next year, according to a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/487018\/marine-corps-mobile-command-vehicle-mcv-production-remains-schedule-with-deliveries-beginning-january\"> Marine Corps release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps\u2019 current program budget has another 18 MCVs headed to the service in August through early 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MCV is platform-mounted to the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV, which replaces the Humvee in some Army and Marine units.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/04\/30\/marines-strap-missile-to-truck-and-strike-target-at-sea\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NSM-JLTV.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Marines strap missile to truck and strike target at sea<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The combination could help the Marines&#039; ship-sinking problem.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As fixed positions on the battlefield become increasingly vulnerable, the release states, mobile systems like the MCV and JLTV are essential to maintaining an edge in the current threat environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MCV combines a shelter integrated on the JLTV platform with upgraded communication capabilities and expanded access to fires command and control networks, according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lt. Col. Joshua Faucett, product manager for fire support systems, noted the MCV\u2019s \u201cstrategic, operational advantage\u201d in equipping Marines with capabilities critical for a future fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe MCV is a prime example of how we are adapting to meet the needs of the modern battlefield and we\u2019re receiving deliveries less than six months after award \u2014 that\u2019s a testament to the hard work of our acquisition team and industry partners,\u201d Faucett said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marines also use the MCV-equipped JLTV for the Marine Air Defense Integrated System and on its new ship-killing missile system, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2024\/12\/05\/this-marine-corps-unit-now-has-a-ship-killing-missile-in-its-toolkit\/\" target=\"_blank\">Navy-Marine Corps Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service requested $340 million in its most recent budget to buy 674 JLTVs, according to a July<a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycrsreport.com\/files\/2024-07-23_IF11729_384f4a557f5fe9ab5fe2aa4c7f16939352c3033d.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> Congressional Research Services report<\/a>. Marines received their first JLTVs in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/02\/28\/these-marine-units-are-the-first-to-field-the-newest-ground-combat-vehicle-the-jltv\/\" target=\"_blank\"> early 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elsewhere in the Corps, personnel at the Marine Depot Maintenance Command production plant at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Georgia, conducted the service\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.logcom.marines.mil\/News\/igphoto\/2003601941\/\" target=\"_blank\"> first organic rebuild of a JLTV engine<\/a> at a Defense Department depot, according to a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.logcom.marines.mil\/News\/Article\/3989574\/rebuilding-for-the-future-the-first-organic-jltv-engine-overhaul\/\"> release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The modified Duramax 6.6-liter diesel engine has specialized components and a proprietary engine control module specifically designed for combat conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, those features also make testing and repairing vehicles more challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Experts noticed earlier this year that the vehicle was burning through engines faster than they\u2019d planned. But the Army, as the main buyer of JLTVs, controls the new engine inventory. And the Marines must pay about $61,000 for each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe hardest part wasn\u2019t rebuilding the engine itself \u2014 it was communicating with the computer,\u201d said Jim Dupree, a heavy mobile equipment mechanic at the depot. \u201cOnce we cracked that, everything else fell into place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By rebuilding worn engines in-house, the depot could save as much as $40,000 per unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new ability also lets the Corps remain \u2018Semper Gumby,\u2019 or
