Jay Bertsch, commander of the 8th Maintenance Group at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea, was fired Oct. 11 due to a \u201closs of confidence\u201d in his leadership, Air Force Times has learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bertsch was reassigned outside of the unit after four months in the job, 8th Fighter Wing spokesperson Capt. K. Paige Hankerson said Tuesday. His deputy, Lt. Col. Justin Deisch including sexual harassment of an airman, dereliction of his duties as a senior noncommissioned officer and simple assault.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a reflection of the importance of our mission and responsibility leaders bear to guide airmen, the Wolf Pack holds its leaders to a high standard,\u201d Hankerson said. \u201cOut of respect for the member and due to the legal process, no further information is to be provided at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bertsch assumed command on June 10, taking control of 1,100 people and a $2.4 million annual budget. There, he earned the title of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.holloman.af.mil\/Art\/igphoto\/2000510466\/\">Company Grade Officer of the Year<\/a> as a captain at the 49th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bertsch went on to hold multiple positions on the Joint Staff and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, as well as at Air Force and Air Combat Command headquarters. He deployed to Iraq and Qatar in leadership roles and served as a squadron commander at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Col.
