Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, AFCENT commander and head of the Combined Forces Air Component for U.S. Central Command. \u201cBut <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2023\/07\/07\/russian-jets-harass-us-drones-over-syria-for-second-time-in-24-hours\/\" target=\"_blank\">there are other threats<\/a> in this region, and we must be ready to face them as well. Tehran has turned its attention to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2022\/07\/21\/air-force-official-expects-iran-to-resume-attacks-on-us\/\" target=\"_blank\">attacking U.S. and coalition forces<\/a> in Syria, and possibly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2023\/07\/05\/navy-iran-tried-to-seize-2-oil-tankers-in-gulf-fired-shots-at-one\/\" target=\"_blank\">mounting offensives at sea<\/a> and on the region\u2019s oil infrastructure, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"714\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/grinch.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Air Forces Central commander Lt. Traci Keller\/Air Force)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ar a July 3 event at Al Udeid to celebrate the creation of the ETSG and to commemorate a change of command, Grynkewich said these threats required a new and innovative approach, and a \u201cway to ensure we could generate airpower whenever and wherever needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ETSG will advance U.S. goals in the region by combining elements of AFCENT\u2019s existing logistics, sustainment and engineering units to provide a more agile and responsive support capability, he said. Since its creation in March, it has already successfully conducted missions across 12 bases in eight countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unit, which Grynkewich described as an echelon above wing support capability, includes airmen from 19 different Air Force Specialty Codes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the July 3 event, Col. Glenn Cameron took command of the ETSG from Col. Anthony Figiera, who oversaw its formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ETSG is an organization that will help us fight the next war,\u201d Figiera said. \u201cIt\u2019s about agile combat employment. This group is focused on campaigning \u2014 setting the theater, providing capabilities and resources \u2014 but can swiftly transition from theater campaigning into operations execution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ETSG\u2019s ability to make swift use of vital capabilities where they are in high demand will crucially impact the Air Force\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis will be vital tomorrow as the ETSG works to ensure our theater is set for any future contingency operations,\u201d Grynkewich said. \u201cIt will be essential in wartime, allowing us to execute agile combat employment by ensuring those locations have the logistics, engineering and communications infrastructure in place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cameron, the unit\u2019s new cmmander, \u201chas the exact right background for this new and impactful command, and I\u2019m excited to see what he and his team do next,\u201d Grynkewich said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2022\/08\/29\/fewer-troops-in-centcom-no-problem-says-3-star-air-boss\/\" target=\"_blank\">40,000 to 60,000 U.S. troops<\/a> are deployed across CENTCOM, largely at military hubs in Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roughly 2,500 Americans remain in Iraq to advise and assist local troops in keeping the Islamic State at bay \u2014 a job that often falls to the Iraqi air force.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFCENT has stood up the ETSG to provide
