Newest service wants its own military training"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Space Force wants to set up its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/space\/2024\/12\/04\/space-force-racing-to-meet-training-testing-demands\/\" target=\"_blank\">tailor-made boot camp for aspiring guardians<\/a>, top officials said at a Florida conference this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re trying to figure out, what\u2019s the right scope, what\u2019s the right scale, what\u2019s the right evolution away from the Air Force training our inductees, and get to a more guardian-focused environment,\u201d Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman said Tuesday at the Space Force Association\u2019s Spacepower Conference in Orlando, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2020, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2024\/03\/06\/space-force-reimagines-training-operations-as-conflicts-intensify\/\" target=\"_blank\">Space Force\u2019s new recruits have trained<\/a> at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, where Air Force recruits also train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along the way, Saltzman said, the Space Force has \u201ccarved out pockets\u201d inside the Air Force\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2024\/08\/14\/air-force-space-force-recruits-to-carry-practice-rifles-at-boot-camp\/\" target=\"_blank\">basic military training curriculum<\/a> to teach future guardians information specific to their service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the time has come for the Space Force to put its own stamp on BMT, Saltzman said in a roundtable with reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt some point we say, well, we\u2019ve got to train and educate our own people,\u201d Saltzman said. \u201cIt\u2019s a natural part of the evolution. When you enter the Space Force \u2026 we want you to be focused on being a guardian from day one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creating a Space Force-specific boot camp requires a lot of effort and investment, Saltzman said, which is one reason the service has piggybacked on the Air Force\u2019s BMT so far. The Space Force plans to continue using the Air Force\u2019s training infrastructure as it sets up its new training, so it can move as quickly as possible, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force John Bentivegna told reporters that the Space Force recently created its own BMT curriculum at Lackland, instead of using a slightly modified version of the Air Force\u2019s plan. That Space Force curriculum is taught by guardian MTIs, he said, and Space Force recruits have their own formations and flights. It is also 7.5 weeks long \u2014 the same as the Air Force\u2019s curriculum \u2014 so guardian training is better integrated with the \u201cecosystem\u201d at Lackland, Bentivegna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a bespoke Space Force training curriculum may need to be a little shorter or longer to best train aspiring guardians, Bentivegna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet\u2019s figure out what we need to do,\u201d Bentivegna said. \u201cIt\u2019s really defining first, without any kind of barriers, what do we need to do for the nation to develop the guardians that we need?
