In addition to \u201cForrest Gump\u201d (1994), Hanks also starred in the World War II classic \u201cSaving Private Ryan,\u201d released in 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his role in that movie, Hanks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/popculture\/tom-hanks-inducted-ranger-hall-fame-1C9432623\" target=_blank>was inducted<\/a> as an honorary member of the U.S. Army Rangers Hall of Fame in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two-time Oscar winner is also involved in volunteering with military nonprofits. He has links to campaigns like Hidden Heroes, organized by the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, which focuses on military caregivers. Hanks, who grew up near Naval Air Station Alameda has said that it\u2019s his way of contributing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2019\/10\/24\/im-it-long-haul-tom-hanks-adds-star-power-military-caregivers-cause.html\" target=\"_blank\">Military.com reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have received a vast education of the type of service that was never asked of me because I was too young and there was no draft,\u201d Hanks is noted as saying in
