A veteran-owned company, Ranger Industries, LLC<\/a>, has been cranking out patches, coins, pins and more to build esprit de corps, recognize milestone achievements and commemorate anniversaries since the 1980s, and it all started at a Ranger battalion. <\/p>\n\n\n

<\/atype-video-jwplayer><\/figure>\n\n\n

\u201cIn 1981, I designed a patch for my Ranger unit<\/a>,\u201d said Gene Frink, the company founder and a veteran of B Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Infantry. \u201cGave it to guys in the unit, and they loved it … so I launched what eventually became this company.\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That patch wasn\u2019t regulation, of course, so the Rangers couldn\u2019t wear it on their uniforms, but it became a memento along the lines of challenge coins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting the company seemed a logical next step, Frink said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coins were on display in early March at the Special Operations\/Low Intensity Conflict symposium in Washington, D.C. The SO\/LIC symposium was put on by the National Defense Industrial Association.

\u201cI started designing coins for battalion commanders in other units on Fort Lewis and it just kind of grew,\u201d Frink said. \u201cOver the years, I\u2019ve done coin designs for presidents of the United States, and I\u2019ve done many commanding general coins.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former President George W. Bush, for instance, commissioned a coin after a commencement speech at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlso, we\u2019ve done coins for Gen. [George] Casey and Gen. [David] Petraeus when they were Multi-National Force commanders,\u201d Frink added.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company isn\u2019t limited to coins, though. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re literally only limited by your imagination,\u201d said Russ Wilson, sales manager at Ranger Industries, LLC, and a fellow Army veteran.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something unique that no one else has to offer, and that\u2019s because Ranger Industries pushes the boundaries,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cWe don\u2019t just want to make \u2018a coin,\u2019 we want to push the envelope and make something unique.\u201d
