This marked the first time the FAA had instituted airspace restrictions that specifically applied only to<span class=\"highlight\">\u00a0drone<\/span>s, the agency said.<br\/><br\/>The facilities include bases and testing centers across the United States (<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/faa.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=9c2e4406710048e19806ebf6a06754ad\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: https:\/\/faa.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=9c2e4406710048e19806ebf6a06754ad\">here&#8217;s a map of the restricted air space<\/a>).<br\/><br\/>The FAA said it was considering additional requests from federal security and intelligence agencies for<span class=\"highlight\">\u00a0drone\u00a0<\/span>restrictions.<br\/><br\/>The FAA previously banned all<span class=\"highlight\">\u00a0drone<\/span>s from a 15-mile radius of Reagan National Airport near Washington that covers the Pentagon and U.S. government facilities. They are also banned around major sports stadiums when games take place.<br\/><br\/>Last month, the FAA said it estimated the fleet of small hobbyist<span class=\"highlight\">\u00a0drone<\/span>s would more than triple from an estimated 1.1 million vehicles in 2016 to more than 3.5 million by 2021.<br\/><br\/>The agency also estimated the commercial<span class=\"highlight\">\u00a0drone\u00a0<\/span>fleet would grow from 42,000 at the end of 2016 to about 442,000 aircraft by 2021. The FAA said there could be as many as 1.6 million commercial<span class=\"highlight\">\u00a0drone<\/span>s in use by 2021.<br\/><br\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flights of
