Nicholas Ranjan sentenced Andrew Ziacik, 57, Nov. 1 to one day imprisonment and ordered to pay a $4000 fine and $75,000 in restitution to his brother, Paul Ziacik, after pleading guilty.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ferrin\u2019s mother had received widow\u2019s benefits since the death of her husband, an Army veteran who fought in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2022\/12\/21\/all-wwii-vets-would-get-va-medical-benefits-under-budget-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\">World War II<\/a>. When her mother died in 1973, Ferrin did not notify VA officials and instead forged her mom\u2019s signature on the monthly checks, federal prosecutors said. She also sent the VA fraudulent paperwork from 1982 until 2017 to keep the theft going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1973, payments were $250 per month, but they increased steadily over the years, according to court documents. By 2021, when the theft was discovered, the monthly payments were about $1,360.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to court documents, Ferrin\u2019s federal public defender said her father\u2019s death \u201cwreaked financial and emotional havoc on the family.\u201d Ferrin moved her mother and younger siblings \u2014 then 8, 10 and 11 \u2014 into her home to live with her, her husband and their three young children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After her mother died, Ferrin\u2019s husband at the time told her to continue cashing the checks \u201cin order to
