The images released Thursday reveal damage to the Chuhuiv airfield in eastern Ukraine, as well as military convoys in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An additional satellite image shared Thursday by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Planet<\/a> shows black smoke billowing over Chuhuiv airfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russian troops <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/flashpoints\/ukraine\/2022\/02\/23\/russias-putin-announces-military-operation-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\">launched the attack on Ukraine<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Vladimir Putin announced a \u201cspecial military operation\u201d as the United Nations Security Council met to discuss how to de-escalate the crisis. For months, Moscow denied it had intentions to invade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Explosions and sirens rocked the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv as the sun rose. This is who we are,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He directed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to order the deployment of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/flashpoints\/ukraine\/2022\/02\/24\/nato-agrees-to-beef-up-eastern-flank-over-ukraine-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\">7,000 additional troops to Europe<\/a>, according to the Pentagon. The troops will be sent to Germany to support NATO allies. Thousands of American troops have already been moved to Poland, Romania and Germany in support of NATO allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NATO called on Russia to stop military action immediately and withdraw forces from in and around Ukraine, calling the attack \u201can act of aggression against an independent peaceful country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe urge Russia in the strongest terms to turn back from the path of violence and aggression it has chosen,\u201d NATO said in a statement. \u201cRussia\u2019s leaders must bear full responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
