Unlike the other service branches, the Coast Guard is financed by DHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile Democrats have played politics with military pay to fight for illegal aliens, the US Coast Guard has been defending our maritime borders, stopping the flow of deadly narcotics and illegal immigration into our country, and countering America\u2019s adversaries around the world,\u201d Noem said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said the department had developed an \u201cinnovative solution\u201d to make sure service members did not go without pay \u201cas a result of Democrats\u2019 political theater.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The release did not expound on the specifics of the solution, other than to credit it to the \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill Act,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/07\/01\/senate-passes-trumps-major-policy-bill-with-150-billion-for-the-dod\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/07\/01\/senate-passes-trumps-major-policy-bill-with-150-billion-for-the-dod\/\">massive tax and spending package<\/a> Congress passed in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. Coast Guard announced through a nonpartisan statement that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.uscg.mil\/Press-Releases\/Article\/4323080\/coast-guard-military-members-to-receive-pay-during-government-shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news.uscg.mil\/Press-Releases\/Article\/4323080\/coast-guard-military-members-to-receive-pay-during-government-shutdown\/\">service members would continue to receive pay<\/a> a day prior to Noem\u2019s public comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur people are the heart of the Coast Guard,\u201d said Admiral Kevin Lunday, acting commandant. \u201cWe are grateful for the actions taken by President Trump and Secretary Noem to ensure that our members \u2014 who protect and defend our nation\u2019s maritime borders and our citizens every day \u2014 receive the pay they have earned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. government came to a standstill Oct. 1 after Congress was unable to pass appropriations legislation for fiscal 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2025\/10\/01\/how-the-government-shutdown-is-affecting-troops-families\/\" rel=\"\"><u>Military troops and their families<\/u><\/a> began seeing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/pay-benefits\/2025\/10\/02\/military-families-seek-out-food-assistance-amid-shutdown-anxiety\/\" rel=\"\">effects<\/a> shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/10\/11\/trump-directs-pentagon-to-pay-troops-despite-shutdown\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/10\/11\/trump-directs-pentagon-to-pay-troops-despite-shutdown\/\">directed<\/a> the Pentagon to use \u201call available funds\u201d to guarantee military troops continue to receive pay as the government shutdown persists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will not help federal workers who are expected to be furloughed, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/10\/06\/government-shutdown-forces-army-to-cancel-best-squad-competition\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/10\/06\/government-shutdown-forces-army-to-cancel-best-squad-competition\/\">half<\/a> of the 741,477 Defense
