A board that meets Dec. 1-4 will consider qualified senior NCOs of the Special Forces, Psychological Operations and Civil Affairs career management fields will be considered for possible appointment to command sergeant major positions with active-component special operations and special-mission units by a board that meets Dec. 1-4.
Regular Army soldiers who want to compete for these appointments must “opt in” using the online command preference signatory that will open Oct. 5 and close Nov. 4. The command preference designation also should be used to indicate assignment preferences. See MilPer Message 15-274 for details.
Most NCOs selected by the board will serve, beginning in fiscal 2017, 30-month CSM appointments with special operations and special mission groups, brigades and battalions.
Selections will be made across the two functional categories of Operations (CMFs 18, 37 and 38) and Force Sustainment (CMFs 18, 37, 38, 88, 89, 91, 92 and 94).
Army policy limits senior NCOs no more than two battalion- and two brigade-level special operations command sergeant major tours during a career. Soldiers who have served as a brigade-level CSM are not eligible to compete for a battalion-level position.
The basic zones of eligibility for the upcoming special ops board are:
Brigade: Command sergeants major and sergeants major with basic active service dates no earlier than March 31, 1988, and a date of birth not earlier than March 31, 1958, and a professional development proficiency code of 6C or 7C.
Battalion: CSM and SGM with basic dates of March 31, 1988 and later, and birth dates no earlier than March 31, 1958. NCOs must be graduates of the Sergeants Major Course who have served at least 12 months on active duty since being frocked to sergeant major.
NCO evaluation reports submitted for the December board must be received at the Human Resources Command by Nov. 20. Officials photos and personnel file updates must be received by Nov. 24.
The online My Board File record review system will open Oct. 8 and close Nov. 2. MBF can accessed via a link on the Human Resources Command Homepage at www.hrc.army.mil.
