RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A graduating South Dakota School of Mines and Technology student has landed a job in a room that any space buff will quickly recognize.
Ryan Brown, of Rapid City, starts work in February at NASA’s Mission Control in Houston, where he’ll help with the operation of the International Space Station.
The 32-year-old says that after 18 months of training, his role will be to oversee the communication system, set up video conferences with the astronauts and troubleshoot computer problems.
Brown says he’ll be advising the flight director and have to make quick decisions about major issues. He says his eight years serving with special forces units in the U.S. Army prepared him for the fast pace of Mission Control.
He graduates Dec. 20 with a degree in computer engineering.
