John Dawson, 22, was from Whitinsville, Massachusetts. He died Wednesday in Jalalabad from wounds suffered when he was attacked by small arms fire while he was on an escort mission, according to the Defense Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dawson was assigned to 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dawson was a combat medic. He joined the Army in 2012 and arrived at Fort Campbell in January 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His awards include the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon, the Combat Action Badge and the Air Assault Badge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dawson is survived by his parents, Rhonda Dawson and Michael Dawson, both of Whitinsville, Mass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spc.
