{"id":13452,"date":"2014-07-21T12:06:46","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T12:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/uncategorized\/2014\/07\/21\/no-one-hurt-after-howitzer-dropped-700-feet\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T01:38:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T01:38:07","slug":"no-one-hurt-after-howitzer-dropped-700-feet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2014\/07\/21\/no-one-hurt-after-howitzer-dropped-700-feet\/","title":{"rendered":"No one hurt after howitzer dropped 700 feet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span class=\"character dateline\">GRAYLING, Mich. \u2013 <\/span> Officials say no one was injured when a large artillery piece was accidentally dropped about 700 feet from a helicopter during training at Camp Grayling in northern Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army National Guard says a Chinook helicopter was moving the 155 mm howitzer on Saturday when it was accidentally released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TV stations WOOD-TV and WPBN-WTOM report the howitzer belongs to the 119th Field Artillery Regiment out of Port Huron. The National Guard is investigating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thousands of soldiers from several states are at Camp Grayling for more than two weeks of training. The program for National Guard soldiers is called Exportable Combat Training Capability. It began earlier this month and runs through July 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Camp Grayling covers 230 square miles, primarily in Crawford County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
