Emily Rainey, 30, was still on active duty during last week\u2019s protests. However, she had already been handed down an adverse administrative action for a separate incident and resigned her commission, the official told Army Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rainey\u2019s involvement in the rally is currently under investigation by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2021\/01\/04\/complaint-about-green-beret-colonels-overreactions-was-dismissed-months-before-police-standoff\/\" target=_blank>1st Special Forces Command<\/a>, which oversees her PSYOP unit, but there is no indication she acted against Army regulations or entered the Capitol during the riot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maj. Dan Lessard, a spokesman for 1st Special Forces Command, clarified in a statement Monday afternoon that Rainey submitted her resignation request in October, it was approved in November and she is slated to separate the service in April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is unclear if she violated any laws or regulations, as the DoD encourages members of the Armed Forces to carry out the obligation of citizenship, so long as their actions are in keeping with DoD policy and do not impair the good order and discipline of the service,\u201d Lessard said in the statement. \u201cThe investigation will determine whether further actions by the command are warranted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt this time there is no indication any other members of the command were present at the Capitol,\u201d Lessard added.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/your-military\/2021\/01\/11\/1st-special-forces-command-investigating-psyop-captain-for-involvement-in-trump-dc-rally\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/CapitolHill4.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">1st Special Forces Command investigating PSYOP captain for involvement in Trump DC rally<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">A PSYOP captain is being investigated for her role in the Jan. 6 rally in Washington  D.C.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rainey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/coronavirus\/southern-pines-woman-banned-from-playground-facing-charges-after-removing-caution-tape\/19117254\/\" target=_blank>made local news<\/a> in May after she posted a video online of her pulling down caution tape at a playground in Southern Pines, near her duty station of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, that was closed because of COVID-19 restrictions. Rainey\u2019s command took administrative action against her after the Southern Pines incident, but Lessard did not say what that entailed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During last week\u2019s events in D.C., Rainey led roughly 100 members of a group called Moore County Citizens for Freedom to the region. Col. Larry Rendall Brock Jr. was photographed on the Senate floor wearing a helmet and heavy vest and carrying zip-tie handcuff.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was a private citizen and doing everything right and within my rights,\u201d she told the AP over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rainey did not respond to a request for comment sent to her through social media. She is currently assigned to the 4th Psychological Operations Group, a unit tasked with using information and misinformation to shape the emotions, decision-making and actions of U.S. adversaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Jan. 6 rally in D.C. started off peacefully near the White House but grew deadly as pro-Trump rioters breached the Capitol. Two Air Force veterans \u2014 one a Capitol Police officer, the other a rioter \u2014 were killed as result of injuries sustained in the riots. Five people in total died during the events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/politics-police-riots-michael-pence-capitol-siege-c3a5973a68c699ff6a57cdd76d675e29\">riot <\/a>followed the rally where Trump repeated false claims that the election had been stolen from him and <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-ap-top-news-michael-pence-nancy-pelosi-capitol-siege-14c73ee280c256ab4ec193ac0f49ad54\">urged his supporters to \u201cfight like hell.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far, at least <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/election-2020-joe-biden-donald-trump-coronavirus-pandemic-elections-1806ea8dc15a2c04f2a68acd6b55cace\">90 people have been arrested <\/a>on charges ranging from misdemeanor curfew violations to felonies related to assaults on police officers, possessing illegal weapons and making death threats against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>This story contains information from the Associated Press.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Capt.
