Gen. (Hamza Al-Ajweh\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Konashenkov said he based his prediction of an impending chemical strike on new U.S. military buildup in the Mediterranean \u2015 similar to the U.S. buildup and military strike in April after Syria killed scores of civilians in a chemical attacks it launched on the rebel-held town of Douma. In the counter strike, air and sea forces from the U.S., U.K. and France<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/pentagon\/2018\/04\/14\/us-launched-105-weapons-against-syria-with-none-intercepted-dod-says\/\" target=_blank> launched 105 weapons <\/a>onto three chemical weapons facilities operated by the Syrian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pahon, however, rejected the idea that the U.S. was again amassing forces in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat I can tell you is that Russian reports of a U.S. military buildup in the eastern Med are nothing more than propaganda,\u201d said spokesman Eric Pahon. \u201cIt\u2019s not true.
