Even as a global pandemic threatens our way of life, there still exist occasional moments that are not shrouded entirely in the impending doom of our species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Netflix graced the public with one such joyous rarity Wednesday when the media titan confirmed that Steve Carell\u2019s newest workplace comedy, \u201cSpace Force,\u201d would be available to stream starting May 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The release of the 10-episode season, an obvious nod to President Donald Trump\u2019s launch of the U.S. military\u2019s newest branch, coincides with Netflix\u2019s impending loss of Carell\u2019s iconic sitcom, \u201cThe Office,\u201d which is expected to move over to NBC\u2019s soon-to-launch streaming platform, \u201cPeacock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSpace Force\u201d \u2014 co-created by Carell and Greg Daniels, the man who brought us the American version of \u201cThe Office\u201d \u2014 centers on the exploits of four-star Gen. Mark R. Naird (Carell), a decorated pilot who once had lofty dreams of leading the Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much to his chagrin, Naird is instead appointed as the head of the military\u2019s sixth branch \u2014 a service whose mission is \u201cto defend satellites from attack\u201d and \u201cperform other space-related tasks … or something,\u201d the show\u2019s teaser trailer<\/a> says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSkeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and \u2018Spacemen\u2019 are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total dominance,\u201d a Netflix release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesdays announcement was made to the delight of fans everywhere, who, due to the scarcity of details since the show was first announced in 2019, were beginning to question whether it was even in development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to providing the show\u2019s official release date Wednesday, Netflix confirmed that long-time \u201cFriends\u201d star, Lisa Kudrow, would be joining the show to play Carell\u2019s disillusioned wife, Maggie, who \u201csublimated parts of herself to her husband\u2019s career for two decades.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Jimmy O. Yang, and Diana Silvers also co-star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Netflix released a series of images from the upcoming series to accompany Wednesday\u2019s announcement. Keep a look out for a trailer in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
