An undisclosed number of cadre members were suspended in early April, and specialized Army CID agents were dispatched to Fort Sill to support the ongoing probe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the past two years, the Army has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2021\/04\/05\/18-army-instructors-charged-with-sexual-abuse-since-2019-data-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\">charged at least 18 soldiers<\/a> under a new law designed to protect trainees, cadets and applicants from sexual abuse by training instructors. But the problem is persistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fort Jackson spokesperson Leslie Sully confirmed a drill sergeant at the post was handed down a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand in October 2020, but declined to disclose the identity of the soldier. Sully also declined to share the nature and character of the soldier\u2019s discharge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The allegations against the unnamed soldier were first revealed when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/usawtfm\/photos\/a.10150129458503606\/10159528301933606\/\" target=\"_blank\">Army W.T.F. moments<\/a>, a popular Facebook page documenting Army life, published a leaked snapshot of disciplinary actions taken against Fort Jackson troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/2021\/04\/05\/18-army-instructors-charged-with-sexual-abuse-since-2019-data-shows\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2684059.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">18 Army instructors charged with sexual abuse since 2019, data shows<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The charges were filed under a new law, Article 93a of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, designed to protect trainees, cadets and applicants from sexual abuse.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The drill sergeant received a permanently filed GOMOR for \u201cmarrying one of his former Trainees less than 180 days from the end of the Trainee\u2019s date of initial entry training, maintaining social media relationships with two other trainees, and failing to be at his appointed place of duty on two separate occasions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An administrative investigation report obtained by Army Times revealed that the drill sergeant, whose name was redacted, was visiting the former trainee at Fort Lee, in Virginia, on the occasions that he failed to be present for duty at Fort Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trainee was attending advanced individual training at Fort Lee. AIT is the second phase of initial entry training for Army troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a against military sexual assault.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigating officer confirmed the visits when Defense Biometrics Identification System records revealed that the former drill sergeant had scanned his ID card to access Fort Lee on days he was reported as \u201cpresent for duty\u201d by his unit at Fort Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Army drill sergeants are considered to be in a \u201cspecial position of trust,\u201d according to service regulations that prohibit them from establishing personal relationships with their trainees for a minimum of 180 days following their graduation from initial entry training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trainees are considered graduated once they complete AIT or one station unit training, which combines basic combat training and AIT into one continuous experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Article 93a of the Uniform Code of Military Justice also criminalizes prohibited sexual relationships between recruiters or training instructors \u2014 such as drill sergeants \u2014 and \u201cspecially protected junior member[s] of the armed forces\u201d such as applicants, delayed entry program members, or servicemembers still undergoing initial
