A soldier died in a motorcycle crash in Anchorage, Alaska, on\u00a0Saturday, the Army reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Staff Sgt. Maurice O. Tucker, 31, a\u00a0platoon sergeant with\u00a04th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division,\u00a0was riding with two other soldiers at approximately 7:50 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Travelling southbound on Minnesota Drive, Tucker was noted as having stopped abruptly at the Spenard Road traffic light, Anchorage Police Department said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“When the light turned green, the motorcyclist took off at a high rate of speed. \u00a0He lost control, began doing ‘speed wobbles,'”\u00a0the police department reported. Tucker was thrown from the bike and struck a light post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Though his fellow soldiers rushed to his side to apply emergency first aid, Tucker was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical responders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Originally from Junction City, Kansas, Tucker joined the U.S. Army in November 2009, and was first assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon completing the assignment in early 2015, Tucker was then assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson,\u00a0Alaska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tucker’s unit is planning a\u00a0memorial ceremony, though details have not been finalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
