Duncan Hunter says he will ask <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/03\/30\/tweeting-trump-injects-white-house-into-seal-war-crimes-case\/\" target=\"_blank\">President Donald Trump<\/a> to pardon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2018\/10\/19\/charged-with-war-crimes-and-stuck-in-the-brig-a-navy-seal-vows-to-fight-on\/\" target=\"_blank\">a Navy SEAL<\/a> if he is found guilty of murder in the stabbing of an Iraqi war prisoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hunter, R-Calif., screened combat footage collected from a helmet camera to a group of lawmakers Wednesday, saying the footage exonerates Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher of one of the charges against him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI wanted to give them an opportunity firsthand to see there is no case,\u201d Hunter told a small group of reporters after the screening. Navy prosecutors also accuse Gallagher of shooting two civilians in Iraq and opening fire on crowds. Gallagher has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His lawyers have said he did not murder anyone and that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/04\/16\/flag-no-special-immunity-for-seal-witnesses-in-war-crimes-case\/\" target=_blank>disgruntled SEALs<\/a> made the accusations because they wanted to get rid of a demanding platoon leader. In March, 40 lawmakers signed a letter urging the Navy to free Gallagher pending trial. Soon after, Trump announced on Twitter that Gallagher would be moved to \u201cless restrictive confinement.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has already used his pardon power in a military case, pardoning on Monday a former U.S. soldier convicted in 2009 of killing an Iraqi prisoner. Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/05\/07\/trump-pardons-former-us-soldier-who-killed-iraqi-prisoner\/\" target=_blank>Army 1st Lt.
