Two years to the day since U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley\u2019s <\/a>now-famous raised-fist salute to rioters at the U.S. Capitol, <\/a>a Marine veteran who ran unsuccessfully for Senate in 2022 announced Friday that he\u2019ll try to unseat Hawley in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucas Kunce, 40, served 13 years in the Marines. A video released by his campaign shows the photo of Hawley with his fist raised on Jan. 6, 2021<\/a> \u2014 a photo that drew strong criticism from some, but also appears on coffee mugs that the senator sells. Kunce\u2019s video shows security camera footage of Hawley running through the Capitol hallway<\/a> in the chaotic aftermath of the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI swear, this coward\u2019s always running from something,\u201d Kunce says in the video. \u201cWhen things get tough, Missourians deserve a U.S. senator who will stand up for them, not run away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phone and email messages left with Hawley\u2019s campaign were not immediately returned. A spokeswoman in Hawley\u2019s Senate office declined comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
