Your evals look great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But you\u2019ve only got three years time in grade, and you\u2019re going up against guys who\u2019ve also checked all their boxes but have been around longer. So, you end up at the back of the promotion line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how it\u2019s been done for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the Army now wants that to stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new enlisted promotions system will take sequence numbers \u2014 the places in line given to promotable NCOs based on time in grade and time in service \u2014 out of the equation for promotion boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is to give top performers priority in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA sequence number shouldn\u2019t be the reason that I\u2019m waiting to get promoted, because the number has no bearing on talent,\u201d Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey told Army Times in an interview this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This proposal is just one of several big initiatives the Army\u2019s top enlisted soldier is working on as he approaches the fourth \u2014 and final \u2014 year of his tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dailey gave Army Times an inside look at some of the items at the top of his to-do list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Ending sequence numbers<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army\u2019s current enlisted promotion system sends all promotion-eligible soldiers to a board, which ranks them by talent \u2014 in other words, the jobs they\u2019ve held, their evaluations, and the additional training or education they\u2019ve taken on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, that top tier is put through a system that reshuffles them again, this time assigning a number to each based on their time in the Army and their time in that rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That way, only those at the top of that heap make the cut, based on the number of spots available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo, I asked the question, I said, \u2018Why do we do that?\u2019 \u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of taking the most qualified soldiers and ranking them for promotion by years served, the Army is now looking to have boards select top-ranked soldiers based purely on their accomplishments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s because you met all the standards, and you were the best selected,\u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sequence numbers will still exist for records purposes, he added, but they will not be used in promotion boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This initiative is the latest in the Army\u2019s overall effort to find new ways to manage talent and reward soldiers for going above and beyond, both in the officer and enlisted ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officer promotions, including sequence numbers and competing with others from their same year group for promotion, are written into law, but for enlisted soldiers, Dailey said, the change is as simple as a sign-off from the secretary of the Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative is still working its way through approval channels, according to G-1 spokesman Lt. Col. Randy Taylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SMA is also hoping to streamline the number of boards the Army does every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat I mean by that is we do too many promotion boards and [other] boards annually right now,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, I\u2019m going to cut them down to like four boards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideally, there would be one board that covers promotions, one that\u2019s responsible for school selection, and a board that screens for the Qualitative Management Program and the Qualitative Service Program, if those become necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This would ensure that the eligible pool of soldiers is looked at by one body and is looked at equally, versus doing a separate QMP or a separate QSP board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo, let\u2019s do a multi-use board and promote from the top,\u201d Dailey said. \u201cAnd if need be, and if talent requires it, then you\u2019re moved from the bottom. And you don\u2019t reshuffle based on time in service, time in grade. Lance Pounds\/Army)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Senior NCOs: Up or out<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another big issue in the NCO corps is upward mobility. As it is now, once a soldier makes sergeant first class, he or she has unlimited chances to be screened for promotion, and they can serve out their days until they hit high-year tenure without ever getting promoted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That clogs up the pipeline for younger, possibly more motivated and talented NCOs, Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About a year ago, the Army reduced retention control points \u2014 the amount of time career soldiers can stay in uniform without getting promoted \u2014 to free up some space in its senior NCO ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, about 3,000 senior NCOs were to be forced to leave the Army in the next several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But with that, the service also was projecting accompanying increases in promotion rates for sergeants first class, master sergeants and sergeants major.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2016\/12\/11\/new-army-rules-set-the-stage-for-nco-promotions-surge\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/arm-nco-promotions.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">New Army rules set the stage for NCO promotions surge<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Noncommissioned officers across the Army can expect a surge in promotions over the next few years as the Army\u2019s new NCO professional development system falls into place.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to data provided by Dailey\u2019s office last December, the Army was projecting a 6 percent increase in the number of soldiers who will pin on the rank of sergeant major in fiscal 2017, compared with fiscal 2016. Officials also were expecting a 25 percent increase in fiscal 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For master sergeants, the Army was projecting a whopping 42 percent increase in promotions in 2018; the increase was projected at 24 percent for sergeants first class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But SMA is considering taking things a step further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you look at our officer promotion rates, they\u2019re much higher,\u201d he said. \u201dAnd the reason why is because, you know, if you get looked at twice and you\u2019re not picked up for promotion, then you have to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right now, senior NCOs are promoting at 20 percent, he said, and that\u2019s not sustainable. Mid-grade NCOs feel trapped, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taking sequence numbers out of the equation could help that, he said, but there\u2019s another option on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDo we need to do the same thing officers do, and do a two-look?\u201d he said. \u201cDo we need to do a three-look?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SMA said his subject matter experts are working on a study to see if the changes need to go that far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Zero non-deployables<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley\u2019s No. 1 priority is readiness, SMA said, and within that is the ongoing effort to whittle down the tens of thousands of soldiers who are not fit for deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In five years, the Army has been able to get the number down two-thirds \u2014 to 20,000, Milley told the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2017\/05\/25\/milley-without-proper-funding-the-service-risks-becoming-a-hollow-army\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/gen-mark-milley-on-transgender-service-members.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Milley: Without proper funding, the service risks becoming a &#8216;hollow Army&#8217;<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Army is on its way to bringing its total numbers back up to over a million soldiers, but it needs steady funding in order to keep units manned, trained and equipped, the service&#039;s top officer told a Senate panel on Thursday.ed, trained and equipped, the service&#039;s top officer told a Senate panel on Thursday.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vast majority of nondeployable soldiers are on that status because they\u2019re behind on medical or dental check-ups, Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reducing that number is a relatively simple task, but it will involve increased outreach to make sure soldiers are making and keeping their appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army also must make sure the soldiers\u2019 units are giving them time to go to appointments, and that the clinics have enough availability to see them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then there are the mid-length non-deployables, Dailey added, who are coming off of illness or injury and will be reevaluated once they\u2019re recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real challenge lies with the remaining 2 percent \u2014 these are soldiers who will never leave the United States again with the Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThose are the soldiers where we need to make the tough decisions,\u201d Dailey said. \u201cAre you going to be able to get back to full health and be able to perform your jobs operationally? And if not, we\u2019ve got to make the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That decision can be fraught, he added, and sometimes takes years to fully settle on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThose are very emotional sometimes. Sometimes we have a tough time with that. This is a human endeavor,\u201d he said. \u201cSome of these soldiers have fought in combat two, three, four, five, six times. Dana Clarke\/Army)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Testing combat fitness<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army has known for years that the Army Physical Fitness Test doesn\u2019t measure combat effectiveness, and now, two different commands are working on two different versions of a test that better simulates a firefight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been working on this for years,\u201d Dailey said. \u201cIt started before I even got to [Training and Doctrine Command]. It is important to get this right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before becoming the sergeant major of the Army, Dailey was the senior enlisted soldier at TRADOC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Army Forces Command\u2019s Soldier Readiness Test is designed to be administered at the unit level to help commander\u2019s get a better idea of their soldiers\u2019 readiness, but not necessarily to be punitive, experts told Army Times in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2017\/07\/21\/army-tries-out-new-soldier-readiness-test-in-pilot-at-installations\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/soldier-readiness-test-pilot.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Army tries out new Soldier Readiness Test in pilot at installations<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Army has spent the better part of a decade on an update to the age-old PT test, one that better measures factors like the strength and agility to effective in combat. This month, they got one step closer with a Soldier Readiness Test pilot held around the country.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s also TRADOC\u2019s Army Combat Readiness Test, which is designed to be given to soldiers when they report to their first units and then repeatedly throughout their careers, with consequences for failing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army Combat Readiness Test, as it\u2019s being tested and evaluated at installations across the force, consists of six events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They include a two-mile run, a 250-meter sprint\/drag\/carry, a maximum weight deadlift, a leg tuck, a standing power throw, and a T-pushup.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2017\/08\/15\/the-army-is-testing-a-new-combat-fitness-test\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-combat-readiness-test-5.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Army is testing a new combat fitness test<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The new six-event test can better measure a soldier\u2019s readiness, and it could be mandatory as soon as next summer.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat we have is not broken either, so let\u2019s take this time and let\u2019s do this right,\u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether the Army ends up implementing one, both, or none, the idea is to create a gender-neutral test that measures power, strength and agility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter \u2014 she lifted the artillery round and she put it in the gun, and it killed the enemy,\u201d Dailey said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m a huge proponent of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>NCOES common core<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, the Noncommissioned Officer Education System has sets of key skills and critical tasks for each military occupational specialty, but TRADOC is working on an expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re putting a common core in each level of NCOES, regardless of your MOS,\u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea is that there are a handful of skills that all NCOs should have a handle on, regardless of their individual jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShould every NCO in the Army, regardless of your MOS, know land nav?\u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps, he added, but a common core would have more to do with leadership principles as NCOs move up the ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are things every NCO needs to know regardless of your MOS. And then as you get closer to the senior ranks, you get further away from your MOS stuff and more into a common core,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to get you away from the task and more into the management. You still have to know what your soldiers do, but you don\u2019t need to know every key stroke.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move is part of an ongoing effort to overhaul NCO education, making classes tougher, more relevant and more performance-based at every level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is linked to a new strategy that went into effect less than two years ago called STEP, or \u201cselect, train, educate and promote.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under STEP, soldiers must have the right level of education before they can be promoted to the next rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system expands on the select, train, educate and promote procedures already used for advancements to sergeant major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Pinks and Greens<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While there are a lot of changes in the works, one of the most noticeable is the return of the \u201cpinks and greens\u201d dress uniforms, which SMA has been pushing for all year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The World War II-era uniform would be a business-suit equivalent in the uniform lineup, giving soldiers something less formal than the Army Service Uniform to wear to official occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1619\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg 2400w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg?resize=300,202 300w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg?resize=768,518 768w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg?resize=1024,691 1024w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg?resize=1536,1036 1536w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ARM-SMA-cover-5.jpg.jpg?resize=2048,1382 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2400px) 100vw, 2400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The \u201cpinks and greens\u201d uniform, seen here on the right next to other variations of the uniform. (National Archives)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After more than a decade of Army Combat Uniforms as standard office wear, pinks and greens would add another layer of formality and offer an alternative to camouflage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt would give us that daily uniform, that\u2019s not a combat uniform, that\u2019s more business,\u201d Dailey has said in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, \u201cwe are getting ready to build a prototype of the pinks and greens,\u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2017\/05\/14\/army-uniform-board-to-consider-bringing-back-iconic-pinks-and-greens-uniform\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/arm-uniform-survey-pinks-and-greens-2.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Army uniform board to consider bringing back iconic &#8216;pinks and greens&#8217; uniform<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">What&#039;s old is new again as the sergeant major of the Army pushes ahead bringing back a vintage uniform.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army is working with PEO Soldier on a concept design, he said, to send to the uniform board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new design will be based on the historic uniform but will take advantage of new technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have to look at, what\u2019s the type of material we would use?\u201d Dailey said. \u201cPossibly capitalizing on some of the new processes in the textile industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any recommendations from the uniform board must go to senior Army leaders for final approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February, at Dailey\u2019s request, Army Times emailed a survey about the pinks and greens to about 28,000 active-duty Army Times subscribers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Respondents had about a week to respond, and more than 5,000 of them did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About 77 percent of respondents \u2014 all of whom said they were active-duty soldiers \u2014 said they like the World War II uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, 72 percent said they would like the uniform to come back as an optional item, and almost 59 percent said they prefer it over the Army Service Uniform worn today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat was the uniform of the \u2018Greatest Generation.\u2019 There was a lot of prestige and honor associated with that.
