Stephanie Simon has earned the title of professional boxer as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simon had her first pro bout on Sept. 27 in Atlanta, according a Marine Corps release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe width=\"315\" height=\"560\"\nsrc=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ss11qK2IkUs\"\ntitle=\"YouTube video player\"\nframeborder=\"0\"\nallow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\"\nallowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her interest in the sport began at the U.S. Naval Academy, where she was required to box and wrestle. Initially, she said, she had no intention of being a boxer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But one thing led to another, and pretty soon, she was fighting while active duty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdnews.com\/news\/golden-girl-camp-lejeune-boxer-wins-first-national-belt-for-ii-marine-expeditionary-force-team\/article_6de5585f-18af-5ac7-8019-2cc33eac8497.html\" target=\"_blank\">winning a Golden Gloves National Tournament<\/a> for the II Marine Expeditionary Force\u2019s boxing team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After, as a reservist, she continued boxing and training for the Marine Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/video\/2023\/03\/06\/discipline-grit-hard-work-drives-naval-academy-boxers\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/video-poster-dc409d97-4973-45e7-a145-80c164cbdb56.png?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">\u201cDiscipline, grit, hard work\u201d drives Naval academy boxers<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">At the annual Brigade Boxing Championships, Navy Midshipmen explain how getting in the ring helps make them better future sailors and Marines.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simon credits her boxing evolution to the grit she developed in the Corps, and in leading units that weren\u2019t used to having a woman in charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe hardest part of my Marine Corps career would be adapting to an environment where people around me didn\u2019t look or think like me,\u201d she said in a Corps release. \u201cIt was a very difficult time, because I was a minority and adjusting to a group of people that were new to having a woman in charge of them. It was very difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe talk about having that mental toughness, we talk about having that character, we talk about having that will to win, all those characteristics that we learned in the Marine Corps,\u201d she said. \u201cThey go directly into boxing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As she embarks on a new phase of her career, Simon said she is proud to represent the Corps in the boxing ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m excited to share my story and really bring this element of leadership into the boxing community,\u201d she said. \u201cI believe that we are in need of it, and I want to be a good example for people all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Capt.
