Armed with wearable fitness devices like Oura Rings and Garmin watches, the service plans to monitor the glut of cardiorespiratory data \u2014 like how many steps they log each day \u2014 that can paint a picture of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2022\/11\/29\/space-force-training-takes-shape-as-service-turns-3\/\" target=\"_blank\">a guardian\u2019s overall well-being<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guardians will be able to opt into the new health tracking regime within the next two months, Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2020\/02\/14\/this-familiar-face-is-the-space-forces-first-top-noncommissioned-officer\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roger Towberman<\/a> told reporters at an Air and Space Forces Association conference in Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think we\u2019ll have something on the street, hopefully, within the next 30 days or so. And it wants to emphasize the link between physical and mental health to have a well-rounded workforce and cut down on health care costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis program will promote not just physical fitness; it will pair fitness with robust education on diet, sleep hygiene and other physiological factors to promote social, mental and spiritual health as well,\u201d then-Space Force personnel boss Patricia Mulcahy added in a March 2022 memo to guardians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because space operations entail more desk work \u2014 like sitting at a satellite control console or monitoring missile launch data on a computer \u2014 than other military missions, Space Force officials want to prioritize general wellness instead of judging members on specific strength and endurance exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service said Friday it is no longer working with the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitrankings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">FitRankings<\/a> to devise its system for tracking progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe USSF is leveraging the Air Force Research [Laboratory] to assess guardians\u2019 physical fitness and to identify metrics in determining when guardians need additional fitness support,\u201d spokesperson Maj. Tanya Downsworth said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Towberman has said the service is looking for \u201chelpful, meaningful investment in guardians instead of disciplinary, punitive intervention because they quietly were failing for six months.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, some critics have raised concerns about data security and personal privacy in a hyperconnected system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cProtecting the data is important.
