A soldier with the 82nd Airborne Division was found dead Thursday in his Raeford, North Carolina, home, officials said Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident is under investigation by military and civilian law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sgt. James Chapman, 32, of Saltville, Virginia, was a Multiple Launch Rocket System crewmember assigned to 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, 82nd Airborne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are thinking of Sgt. Chapman’s family during this challenging time,” said Lt. Col. Brandon Meno, the commander of 3rd Battalion, said in a statement. “They have our most sincere condolences.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chapman joined the Army in November 2005. He completed one-station unit training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 2006, and was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, first in 2007 and then in 2008. He also served in the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea from 2010 to 2011 before returning to Fort Bragg in July 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (one oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster), the Army Superior Unit Award, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Expert Marksman Qualification Badge with Rocket Launcher.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
