The Army of the future needs you."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2013 Army recruiters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/10\/09\/largest-middle-east-military-exercise-features-army-marine-ground-troops-in-multi-domain-and-urban-defense\/\" target=_blank>are looking to the gaming world <\/a>and trying to reach the emerging, \u201cGeneration Z\u201d population that\u2019s on the heels of millennials as they build a force to fight in 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, head of Army Recruiting Command, spoke Monday at the Association of the U.S. Army\u2019s Annual Meeting and Exposition on building the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/10\/14\/from-machine-gun-ranges-to-cyber-attacks-demands-are-high-on-the-army-guard-and-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\">multi-domain operations<\/a> leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/10\/13\/a-big-army-warfighting-focused-exercise-is-planned-for-south-america\/\" target=\"_blank\">of the future.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2019\/10\/13\/these-army-armor-soldiers-will-go-through-the-new-22-week-osut\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/3ID-scouts.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">These armor soldiers will go through the new 22-week OSUT<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The pilot program will be used to build permanent extended training for all incoming armor crewmen and scouts.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muth emphasized that the core leadership traits remain the same but how and what today\u2019s recruits will be doing may look much different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soldiers in a fight 15 years from now will be \u201cbombarded with information from multiple interfaces,\u201d he said, and they\u2019ll need to take in every bit of that tech feed, \u201ccrunch it quickly and decide what to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s in the wheelhouse of most of Gen Z, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studies he cited showed that as far as getting the attention of a Gen Z recruit, they have about eight seconds online, and traditional phone calls and in-person meetings don\u2019t work the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those new recruits want to meet online, determine if the sender is a bot or human and then move forward from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And while in 2018, Army recruiting fell short of its annual mission by 6,500 new recruits, it made mission more than two weeks ago for the past year at 68,187 new recruits. Muth said all quality marks went up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have questions as simple as whether they can have a dog while in the Army, own a car and if they\u2019re always in uniform, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While current soldiers use basic drones, Cold War-era combat vehicles, short-range air defense and aging helicopters, future soldiers will see much more capable and complex systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That includes ubiquitous communications, hypersonic missiles, mixed realities and intuitive weapons systems, said Col.
