Past, present and future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s how a new monument at Fort Myer<\/a> is honoring the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Old Guard Monument was unveiled on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Virginia-based Army post<\/a>, and the focus is a bronze sculpture featuring three Old Guard soldiers. Each soldier represents a different aspect of the regiment\u2019s service over time, including a Fife and Drum Corps member, a combat soldier and a Tomb of the Unknowns<\/a> guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are here today to dedicate this sculpture to the soldiers \u2014 past, present and future,\u201d said Barbara Mungenast, the monument\u2019s sculptor. \u201cThis sculpture was created to thank those who gave themselves to our wonderful America.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mungenast said she wants the bronze statues to represent any gender or ethnicity because she wanted \u201cto show diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want the viewer to make it be whatever they need it to be,\u201d said Mungenast, whose late husband served in the Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are all connected,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are all America.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
