{"id":38726,"date":"2022-04-27T14:56:58","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T14:56:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/uncategorized\/2022\/04\/27\/last-minute-fix-allows-major-for-profit-school-to-again-receive-gi-bill-payouts\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T07:22:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T07:22:33","slug":"last-minute-fix-allows-major-for-profit-school-to-again-receive-gi-bill-payouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/education-transition\/2022\/04\/27\/last-minute-fix-allows-major-for-profit-school-to-again-receive-gi-bill-payouts\/","title":{"rendered":"Last-minute fix allows major for-profit school to again receive GI Bill payouts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/education-transition\/2022\/04\/05\/thousands-of-student-veterans-left-in-limbo-after-school-loses-gi-bill-eligibility\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Arizona Global Campus<\/a> using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/education-transition\/2022\/02\/23\/no-gi-bill-covid-emergency-protection-past-this-summer-va-says\/\" target=\"_blank\">GI Bill benefits<\/a> won\u2019t see any disruption in their tuition or housing payments after school officials this week fixed what they called a \u201cbureaucratic snafu,\u201d which halted their ability to accept the federal funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last month, more than 3,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/education-transition\/\" target=\"_blank\">student veterans<\/a> at the school (formerly known as Ashford University) were told they could no longer use GI Bill benefits to pay for classes after a California approving agency revoked the institution\u2019s license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UAGC officials at the time characterized the issue as minor, saying they were completing steps needed to be reauthorized in Arizona, allowing them to continue to accept the federal education benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/education-transition\/2022\/04\/05\/thousands-of-student-veterans-left-in-limbo-after-school-loses-gi-bill-eligibility\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/4842013.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Thousands of student veterans left in limbo after school loses GI Bill eligibility<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The move followed a California decision to revoke the operating license for University of Arizona Global Campus.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But following the California move, both school and VA officials were forced to issue statements promising that student veterans in the middle of studies at UAGC would have their tuition costs covered through the end of the spring semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week, the Arizona State Approving Agency finalized its work on the school\u2019s application, once again allowing them to receive GI Bill payouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe approval means that current and prospective students will again be eligible to utilize VA education benefits at UAGC, including course tuition and fees and monthly housing allowance,\u201d school officials said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAffected students who started classes in April \u2026 will be back certified by UAGC for course tuition and fees. The monthly housing allowance also will be covered for these students. Therefore, UAGC expects no interruption to student benefits, classes, or costs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VA officials confirmed that in a note to students on Monday, stating \u201cthere will be no gap in your GI Bill benefits coverage\u201d thanks to the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the resolution, outside advocates said they remain concerned about what led up to the approval problem and past operations by UAGC officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a for-profit colleges \u2014 said numerous students reached out to them in recent weeks with complaints about how the situation was handled and the stress that resulted from the temporary GI Bill lapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group is calling for a full review by Arizona officials into UAGC, pointing to past legal judgements against Ashford University for fraud and misrepresentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UAGC officials said they have been in compliance with all relevant state rules throughout the recent problems, and blamed the funding
