Under the partnership, the outside health care companies will help ensure veterans are getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2023\/05\/24\/vets-will-see-a-cost-of-living-boost-in-benefit-checks-next-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">needed treatments and benefits<\/a> by exchanging information with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2023\/08\/23\/your-next-visit-to-va-medical-center-may-be-in-cyberspace\/\" target=\"_blank\">VA on veterans\u2019 routine care<\/a> and specialty medical requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis pledge will improve veteran health care by giving us seamless, immediate access to a patient\u2019s medical history, which will help us make timely and accurate treatment decisions,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/management\/hr\/2023\/09\/18\/va-reaches-annual-medical-staff-hiring-goal-one-month-early\/\" target=\"_blank\">VA Under Secretary for Health Dr. Shereef Elnahal <\/a>said in a statement announcing the partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt will also empower VA to send helpful information to our partner health systems that they can then offer to veterans in their care \u2014 including information about new benefits we are offering under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2023\/08\/14\/just-hours-left-for-vets-to-apply-for-retroactive-pact-act-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\">PACT Act<\/a>, no-cost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2023\/08\/30\/suicide-prevention-campaign-urges-vets-to-be-the-one-who-reaches-out\/\" target=\"_blank\">emergency suicide care<\/a>, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/veterans\/2023\/09\/25\/va-officials-sound-alarm-on-uptick-in-veterans-benefits-scams\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-1470572880.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">VA officials sound alarm on uptick in veterans benefits scams<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The department is launching a new outreach effort to help veterans spot potential fraud before they become victims.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The systems partnering with VA are Emory Healthcare, Inova, Jefferson Health, Sanford Health, University of California Davis Health, Intermountain Health, Mass General Brigham, Rush Health, Tufts Medicine, Marshfield Clinic, Kaiser Permanente Health Plan and Hospitals, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Atrium Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2023\/09\/25\/va-officials-sound-alarm-on-uptick-in-veterans-benefits-scams\/\" target=\"_blank\">VA officials<\/a> said staff at sites operated by those companies will begin collecting from patient data on veteran status, medical history and past interactions with VA. Employees will also provide information on department and community resources for veterans, \u201cespecially VA services that lower veterans\u2019 out-of-pocket expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-and-13-community-health-systems-pledge-to-share-data-to-improve-veteran-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\">In a release explaining the partnership<\/a>, department officials said that the arrangement could benefit both patients and providers by better outlining what resources are available to the veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis type of information sharing could help inform a non-VA doctor that a veteran experiencing an acute suicidal crisis should receive care at no cost, under VA\u2019s new policy,\u201d the department explainer stated. \u201cAdditionally, it could inform a non-VA doctor about how the PACT Act could help a veteran patient, thus empowering the provider to encourage that veteran to file for benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only about half of all veterans living in America today are enrolled in VA health care. Department leaders have said that finding ways to connect VA services to the others is critical for efforts such as preventing veteran suicide and tracking illnesses linked to military service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VA officials pledged publicly that they will safeguard the privacy and security of all veteran information involved in the data sharing.
