{"id":42380,"date":"2021-07-20T15:41:11","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T15:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/uncategorized\/2021\/07\/20\/this-business-accelerator-is-designed-to-help-women-veterans-succeed\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T03:36:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T03:36:29","slug":"this-business-accelerator-is-designed-to-help-women-veterans-succeed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/education-transition\/2021\/07\/20\/this-business-accelerator-is-designed-to-help-women-veterans-succeed\/","title":{"rendered":"This business accelerator is designed to help women veterans succeed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Veterans Affairs has partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/penfedfoundation.org\/\">PenFed Foundation<\/a> \u2014 the charitable arm of PenFed Credit Union \u2014 to announce its Military \u201cWomen Veteran Bootcamp Accelerator\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On July 13, VA and the PenFed Foundation brought 80 women veteran entrepreneurs from 29 different states to participate in a six-month accelerator program to help guide and prepare them in federal and commercial marketplaces, according to a statement from the VA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants are \u201cVA center for Verification and evaluation verified, with three to five years in business and have past performance as a prime or subcontractor,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The six-month program was created to support women veteran entrepreneurs and bring empowerment to those seeking to grow their business. The program provides training and resources to start and grow businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s important we provide an environment where women entrepreneurs can receive strategic and deliberate education, empowerment, engagement and access to enhance their businesses,\u201d said VA Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization Executive Director Sharon Ridley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThrough entrepreneurship, women veterans have an opportunity to leverage their military and leadership skills to increase and create economic opportunities,\u201d Ridley continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Classes are available with a focus on relationship building, product\/market analysis, business development and growth preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coaching from industry leaders such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astrazeneca.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">AstraZeneca<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.halfaker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Halfaker<\/a> and Associates and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optum.com\/business\/solutions\/government\/federal\/about-optumserve.html\" target=\"_blank\">OptumServe<\/a> will be available to participants, as well as small groups for participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program closes with a pitch competition. One participant with a winning pitch will be awarded a PenFed Foundation grant to use toward their own business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have shared a goal: to empower women Veterans and create access to capital and systems to support them,\u201d PenFed Foundation President and retired Army Gen. John W. Nicholson, Jr. said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe believe in creating a business ecosystem that establishes service in the U.S. military as the most reliable pathway to a
