Most of lawmakers&#8217; focus will be trained on finalizing plans for a budget resolution to keep the government open past Thursday and shepherding the annual defense authorization bill through the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several committees will continue their oversight of military operations against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria. The House Veterans&#8217; Affairs Committee plans several last-minute looks at Veterans Affairs Department issues that haven&#8217;t been pressing crises in recent months. And Senate Armed Services Committee lawmakers will likely wrap up their year&#8217;s work with a list of non-controversial nominations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Monday<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #1155cc;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.armed-services.senate.gov\/\">Senate Armed Services<\/a><\/span><span> \u2014 2:30 p.m. \u2014 Dirksen 106<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>Nominations<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the nominees under consideration are Robert Scher (to be assistant defense secretary for strategy), Elissa Slotkin (to be assistant defense secretary for international security) and David Berteau (to be assistant secretary for logistics).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
