The division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, will still confront expressions of hate. Especially, as the Twitter universe found out on Monday, if that comes from someone sporting 82nd Airborne paraphernalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, a former Obama administration official tweeted a picture of a man wearing a division hat and making a gesture resembling a Nazi or Ku Klux Klan salute. It was taken by journalist Katie Couric&nbsp;during a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/katiecouric\/status\/896421656662597632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.yahoo.com%2Ftv%2Fcharlottesville-protesters-douse-journalists-urine-katie-couric-reports-214124982.html\">white nationalist rally<\/a> in Charlottesville, Virginia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Would *LOVE* to know the name of Mr. 82nd Airborne Division here rendering Hitler&#39;s Nazi salute. What sort of valor did HE earn with the Sieging and the Heiling here? Anyone? Bueller?<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GhRCAwgSBu\">https:\/\/t.co\/GhRCAwgSBu<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Andy French \u0ca0_\u0ca0 (@R0G3R5R4NG3R5) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/R0G3R5R4NG3R5\/status\/897186438797832193\">August 14, 2017<\/a><\/blockquote>\n<script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The division replied that anyone who believes the man in the photo represents the 82nd\u2019s&nbsp;\u201dculture and values has never worn the maroon beret &#8230; and never will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unit\u2019s Twitter account also pointed out the difference between being an active member and simply wearing a hat bearing its insignia:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">U really think that guy is an active member of the 82nd just because he has that hat? My mom has that same hat.
