The Army has issued its rules for governing the <\/span>opening of <\/span>Special Forces to women as part of and <\/span>several policy revisions other policies <\/span>affecting the service’s optional assignment and reclassification of active-duty enlisted soldiers to <\/span>special operations career fields\u00a0have been issued by the Army<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announced Included are several policy adjustments to be included in a future update to Chapter 5 of AR 614-200, the principal regulation governing the assignment and personnel management of enlisted soldiers.\u00a0The changes announced <\/span>March 8, the changes apply to enlisted personnel seeking assignments in three specialties:\u00a0will be incorporated into the Army’s regulation governing\u00a0enlisted soldiers’ supersede CMF 18 (<\/span>Special Forces)<\/span>, CMF 38 (<\/span>Civil Affairs)<\/span> and CMF 37 (<\/span>Psychological Operations) instructions issued in February 2014<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An overview Key changes to Chapter 5 include<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special Forces<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 SF is open to male and female soldiers. However, before attending\u00a0Special Forces Assessment and Selection, known as SFAS,\u00a0soldiers must complete a physical assessment test that, as a minimum, includes 49 pushups, 59 situps, a 2-mile run of 15:12 minutes or less, and six pullups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Female soldiers must have a negative pregnancy test within 30 days before their report date to SFAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Soldiers seeking entry into Special Forces must have a valid SF physical before attending SFAS. Additionally, candidates must be able to complete a physical demonstrating they are able to endure the speeds and stress associated with a high-altitude, low-opening parachute jump.\u00a0If and, if <\/span>needed, soldiers must also\u00a0undergo corrective eye surgery before attending the SF qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 The minimum General Technical score for Special Forces has been increased from 107 to 110, and the Army will not accept (no <\/span>waivers)<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 The maximum age for SFAS remains 36, and soldiers must have at least 36 months of obligated service remaining when they complete the SF qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Civil Affairs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Soldiers who qualify for reclassification to become a civil affairs specialist\u00a0MOS 38B\u00a0<\/span>must successfully complete Civil Affairs Assessment and Selection and the CA qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Prerequisites for reclassification include a physical profile rating of no less than 111221; a minimum GT score of 107; a secret security clearance; no criminal record of <\/span>convictions by a court-martial, and no record conviction by a civil court <\/span>for any offense other than minor traffic violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Also, soldiers must achieve a score of 65 or higher on the Defense Language Aptitude Battery, and have a valid Test of Basic Education or measuring an applicant’s abilities\u00a0in reading, writing and arithmetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Specialists must have one to four years of service, and no more than three years in grade as an E-4 to apply for the CA qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Sergeants must have two to six years of service, and no more than three years in grade as an E-5 to apply for the qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Staff sergeants must have three to eight years of service, and no more than three years in grade as an E-6 to apply for the qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Promotable staff sergeants may apply with a waiver approved by the civil affairs commandant at the Special Operations Center of Excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 CA applicants must have completed the survival, evasion, resistance and escape physical within 24 months before submitting their accessions packet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 If not already jump-qualified, soldiers must complete basic airborne training before reporting to the CA qualification course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Female soldiers must have a negative pregnancy test within 30 days before their CA Assessment and Selection report date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Psychological Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Soldiers requesting reclassification into the Psychological Operations career field\u00a0CMF 37\u00a0<\/span>must have a current survival, evasion, resistance and escape\u00a0SERE <\/span>Level C physical on record, and a minimum GT score of 107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Soldiers in the ranks of private first class through sergeant are eligible to apply for reclassification if they have at least 18 months in the service, but no more than 10 years of active federal service<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Female soldiers must have a negative pregnancy test within 30 days before their report date for the PO Assessment and Selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Soldiers must successfully complete PO Assessment and Selection to attend the qualification course, which is a prerequisite for reclassification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All soldiers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of these changes will be reflected in a future update to\u00a0Chapter 5 of AR 614-200, the Army’s principal regulation governing enlisted assignments and personnel management.\u00a0For detailed information about the regulation changes, soldiers should access MilPer Message 16-073, which was released March 8 by the Human Resources Command<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
